Video for the Ugly Duckling song “Elevation”. Animated by Justin Ridge and directed by Stoney Sharp, this is the first video from the group’s 2011 album “Moving At Breakneck Speed”. The video features comedians T.J. Miller and Zack Pearlman as well as Nathan Barnatt and several other members of the UD family. The goal of this video was to bring the Breakneck Speed album cover to live. See if you can also spot each of the previous Ugly Duckling album covers throughout the video.

Months ago when we dropped a hint that one more Madlib Medicine Show was to come, little did we know that the Madlib Invazion label would find itself dealing with the problem of one printing press after the next refusing to run the artwork. Some who have seen this artwork describe it as "mutant porn." Others simply shake their heads, set it down, wash their hands. Now that an offshore press specializing in "fringe adult publications" has taken the job, the 'secret Medicine Show' will finally be released on March 1st.
The Buzz Factory Vol. 1. The mixtape features 10 original records produced by the Carolina beatsmith, including reader-approved leaks “Get Lost” and “Dont Stop.” Contributing guest vocals throughout Buzz Factory are Kooley High, HaLo, King Mez, Sean Boog, M1 Platoon, FrosTtheTroubled, Simple Simon and Charlie Smarts.
“Lost Loves” is a song that literally took 20 years to complete. The first half was recording in 1991 and the other half was recorded in 2011. Thanks to Sage Francis being a pack-rat since an early age, he is now able to trade bars with his younger self. Finalizing this song involved salvaging a 20 year old recording from a 2nd generation cassette dub, filling in the blank lines, and twisting what was originally a tale of unrequited love into a bizarre story about a man who thinks it’s appropriate to woo his lady with battle raps.
To top it all off, this is the long-awaited return of Sage’s nasty alter-ego, Xaul Zan…so don’t expect anything sweet. “It’s got to do with lots of lovin’ and it ain’t nuthin’ nice.” Many thanks to Pat Jenses for the artwork!
“Big Sur” features some lush, psychedelic production from Botany that recalls Edan’s best tracks, as well as fellow Philly natives, the Roots, at their loosest. On the vocals, Lushlife spits hard again, referencing one of rap’s best one-off tracks ever, Smoothe da Hustler and Trigger tha Gambler’s “Broken Language”.

We got a chance to sit with Oddisee recently at his NY home, and he shared some truly interesting information about his outlook on life and music career. In this episode, which is the 1st of a 2 part series, Oddisee speaks on a number of topics including how he got his start in music, being a leader in the D.C./DMV music scene, What he strives to achieve with each rhyme, and what matters to him most in his life. He even gives some interesting insight on ways we can make progress despite the current state of our economy.
